Cleopatra
Cleopatra was commissioned by the Mingei Museum of San Diego for the trunk show I did in 2010. It has been the last alebrije I’ve made using the traditional technique of cardboard and glue and my first attempt to add more character and life to a sculpture, adding that butterfly in its tongue. Cleopatra is part cat, part parrot, part frog and part squirrel, her tail is inspired by an injured squirrel that moved into our patio while I was working on this sculpture. She lost all of the fur in her tail and came running to me asking for help. I fed her and adopted for a month until she was okay to go back to her regular life. Cleopatra was sold to a private collector.
